Every kitchen needs some classy linen tea towels in it, and while these ones may come from the land down under, they are definitely kicking out some solid scandinavian vibes. Designed and hand printed by Australian based Red Wren Designs, the towels are available in either a natural or cream linen.
I'm always impressed with the quality of products available on Etsy for such a little amount of money. Take for example these fantastic 11" x 17" pillow by Bark Decor. It's printed with eco friendly water based inks, and sun exposed. So yeah, it's green. Even better though is the fact that the hand drawn design looks AMAZING. All that for only $34.
Make sure you check out the rest of the goodies by the dynamic sister duo Bark Decor.
As far as I can see, there's not much to not like about Giorgio Biscaro's wood and iron side table (created exclusively for CB2). I love the pinstripe effect of the birch and white oak legs especially when combined with that crisp white powder coated top. The price is just right, too! Perfection.
Color! Need a little something to brighten up your walls? I have a feeling this hand painted birch plywood clocks from Chroma Lab will do just the trick.
I know, I know. Your inbox is already bursting at the seams from all the "members only" discount home accessories stores. I've signed up for more than I can count, and have been working on weeding out the good and bad. All of them have similarly good pricing, the difference is how well curated they are. With that in mind, I have to share the latest great one that I have been loving. Design Story has one of the best collections I've found so far, with almost everything on the sight finding a place on my wishlist. It helps too that they have a whole section curated by Julie Carlson of Remodelista.
Still hesitant to sign up? To sweeten the deal, all new members get an instant $10 credit towards your first purchase.
First things first: I'm finding it nearly impossible to believe that it's almost September. SEPTEMBER, people! How did this happen? Ack! Of course, one good thing about this whole "it's practically fall and then it's going to be winter and then it's going to be 2012 and then it's the end of the world" conspiracy is that there's a whole slew of awesome calendars popping up. I love calendars! I especially love when they're represented in a slightly more abstract or unconventional way, like these poster sized calendars by Pam Lostracco. My favorite of the bunch is themountain design, inspired by her trips through Thailand and Laos. The bamboo and water ring designs are pretty sweet too. Check 'em all out here and let me know which is your fave!
OK reader, I need a little help. I'm currently in the market for a new wallet, but I'm not really a wallet guy. More of a money clip/ card holder in the front pocket guy. So far I have come up with the following short list. 1. Magic Wallet w/ money clip and ID window. $20. Not very creative name, but some nice features. I worry that the quality will be poor based on the price. 2. Norman Copenhagen move credit card holder. $60 Look like it could be a bit bulky, or worse everything wouldn't fit.. 3. John Kubasek carbon fibre knife. $200 Too rambo? Plus it's uber expensive and I could never fly with it. I do like the idea of it serving multiple purposes though.. 4. MAKR Horizon three wallet. $90 I love anything Jason does. Hand made, high quality.
The mother of all wall clocks is here (well, almost - it ships in October)! The 4th Dimension Clock is made to order, by hand, from solid concrete and is intended to represent the relation between time and space. Pretty lofty stuff, eh?
It's been a while since I have checked in with Unison home to see what is new. I'm always surprised at their solid selection of affordable duvet covers. The one that caught my eye today is the Sailor + Regatta Navy Duvet. It jumps on the whole parisian bandwagon that seems to be extra hot this summer. Also, I couldn't help but notice the Harbor Throw Blanket, but that is probably just because they had it sitting on an Eames Lounger. Still I'm always a sucker for a good throw blanket, and the white with contrasting red stitching is fantastic.
Everybody loves the neutraface house numbers, and honestly, they always looks good. Modplexi is making it even easier to mount them on your house, and giving you the option to add a pop of color. They also make some really nice MCM inspired art collages on plexiglass, which gives it a nice 3D feel. Check out their blog, flickr page and Etsy shop.
The shape of these pendant lamps takes inspiration from lab beakers, but their soft colors are completely unique! I love the soft purple and coppery honey colors especially - gorgeous!
These bike fork bottle openers are quickly making their way around the internet, and with good reason. They are attractive, utilitarian, and assuming the fork used was no longer useful for actual bike riding, green. Designed and made by Evan Hawkins you can pre-order now from Etsy.
Margaret Rankin is a Toronto-based print artist who specializes in block printing; all of her work is made by hand, blocks and all. Her subject matter varies widely, but I'm particularly drawn to this architectural series (pictured above) based on photographs by fellow Toronto local Graham Iddon. Check out more of her work right here!
Canadian based EQ3 has been on my radar for a long time. They have a broad line of furniture and accessories, and they have a very nice quality to price ratio. It's been sad to see them slowly retreat from the US market. You used to be able to order their product line through and RC Wiley (perhaps mistake #1) but now it appears that they only have representation in a handful of states. The good news for those up north is that they recently announced that they are partnering up with Vitra and Alesssi among others. Hopefully this means that they are still going strong, and who knows, maybe someday they'll make a push back into the states.
These modern pillows are screen printed by hand by Ohio-based textile artist Jenny Sauer. Sold through her online shop "Three Sheets 2 the Wind", they're available in 2 sizes and a whole slew of colors and patterns. She also offers handmade prints, bedding, wall panels, and fabric by the yard. Check out her full range of products right here.
We at Postlerferguson developed the “Brotzeit” design proposal that is aimed to inspire decision makers in the airline industry to rethink their approach on how to deliver and serve meals to their customers and what kinds of products are being selected.
All foods can be supplied by local specialist manufacturers to the airline and packed into the Brotzeit boxes of each passenger. Every culture has a rich “on the go” cuisine of pre-prepared dishes, fresh produce, salads, pickles, conserves or raw foods. These foods are made for travelling and we believe future airlines should take advantage of this healthy and divers food culture – it`s Brotzeit!
OK, it's Friday, you've had a long week, you are already one foot out the door. How bout we start this weekend off right. I stumbled across this found footage of a 1963 vacation in Puerto Rico. It's full of all sorts of great mid century architecture, vaca-wear and beautiful vintage video defects. The only problem is, no sound. So here is a little game to play.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Start playing "Puerto Rico - 1963 8mm Reel". The first 30 seconds are an intro screen.
2. When you get 30 seconds in, hit play on "Full LP: Bossa Nova - New Brazilian Jazz - Lalo Schifrin - 1962 Audio Fidelity"
3. Switch "Puerto Rico - 1963 8mm Reel" to full screen.
4. Sit back and enjoy your own little tropical paradise.
I always enjoy seeing tastefully upcycled goods, and this wine bottle tea light makes pretty good use of an old wine bottle in my opinion. Of course if tea lights aren't really your thing, you could just good all in and get an acacia wood bottle bookend.
Atomic Lodge, the Milwaukee-based Etsy shop of artist Suzanna Anna, is a Mid-Century lover's dream. Her work includes everything from sculpture to abstract art prints (pictured above is the entire Spectrum Series). Check out more of her work and see if anything tickles your fancy!
