The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder. If you haven't had a chance to have a picnic this year, I suggest you get it done quick. May I suggest this amazing white picnic set by Carina Ahlburg. Made of white melamine this durable and beautiful picnic set has everything you need for 4 people. Just add food and good company.
Picnic Set by Carina Ahlburg $81
My friend Carina shared this awesome tableware collection on Pinterest recently and I haven't been able to get it out of my mind! From tea plates to espresso sets, mugs and tea cups I'm obsessed with every single one of these playful porcelain pieces. Granted, I'm not much a tea drinker so I'm secretly hoping beyond hope that they release some dinner and salad plate versions soon!
OK, I fully admit that the only reason I like this shelf is because it has pretty things on it, but that's not so bad right? If your shelves are for displaying your objets d'art, then what better way to do that than to have a shelf made of clear plastic. Works for me.

I love when a simple object gets reinvented. Take for example the pencil. It's about time someone sexy'd that little guy up a little. The pocket clip pencil has to be one of the better looking ones I've seen in a while too. In fact it's so good looking I'm not quite sure how I would feel about having it hide in my pocket.

Vintage arithmetic blocks in snappy colors and a white embossed box?? YES PLEASE. I don't know what I'd do with them, other than love them with my whole heart, but I can't shake the feeling that I need them. Does this happen to anyone else?
Pig & Fish is an Etsy shop based on "an island in Maine" that makes funky, retro-inspired wall shelves (amongst other things like key hooks, mirrors, and letter holders). Their fun color combos are what really caught my eye, though! Check out more of their handmade goodies right here.
I've been moving GRM over to a new server today and it's been sort of a bumpy ride. Kinda makes me want to go home and curl up in a blanket and take a nap. Specifically this brilliant blanket by Barbara Perrino.

It seems like I have been featuring a lot of great handmade furniture coming out of Colorado recently. The most recent to catch my eye is David Rasmussen Design. Based out of Carbondale, Colorado David has an interesting mix of more traditional fine woodworking pieces like the Treehouse Stools shown above, to very modern Danish inspired pieces like the Curve A Linear chair and side table.

I love decorated packaging tape. It seems like such a fun and easy way to spice up just about anything that needs a little tapping. This original design by UK designer Joanna Rutter is absolutely fantastic. It has a great vintage + scandinavian feel to it. If you love it, you better snatch it up quick as this is the last roll from this design series.

I was discussing with a friend the other day how Fab.com conitinues to absolutely kill the competition discount online sites. They still have hands down the best curated selection of goodies for the home out there. Point in case is todays collection of fantastic prints by the talented Becky Hui Chan. I'm especially a fan of the Geometric Shapes print shown above, and at only $17, it's practically irresistible. If you are already a Fab.com member, you know what to do, if you haven't joined yet, get sign up now!

Wood and felt for the win (again)! Designer Eric Janssen's stackable beech coasters will add a nice pop of color while protecting that precious coffee or side table of yours. Kind of a win-win, don't you think?
I've been really into wooden spoons lately, I've even ventured into making my own set (more on that later). I'm particularly interested in ones that are lacquered like these ones. This handmade set of spoons from Kyoto Japan is an absolute steal at $35.

Unison just launched a new collection of bedding for babies and kids and we couldn't be more in love! The Sailor and Regatta duvet/sheet combo is an instant favorite in that bright, cheery yellow. Check out the full line right here and let us know what you think!
I've been back and forth on prefab over the years as to whether or not I think it's a good deal. Most can't come close to the cost of a custom built structure in Utah making them only practical for difficult to access sites, or if you live in an area like California where custom prices are outrageous. What I have been excited about lately is all the small prefab options that have popped up lately. Sett Studio has a few sub 200 square foot options that price out between $150 - $200 a square foot. That price includes some nice features too, like super efficient SIP construction and a (sort of) Shou Sugi Ban siding.

If you know me, you know I like simple solutions to complex problems. The problem I have is a desk full of clutter. As we speak the only two bare spots on my desk are being occupied by my coffee, and my breakfast. Solution? Realistically the answer is to quit being lazy and clean my desk up, but I'd like to think that this Up Filer, a vertical wall-mounted filing system from Westerville Design, would help. It's so simple that it's hard to believe that this solution hasn't existed before. I also like that the Up Filer is made of wood and chrome instead of plastic like so many other office organizers.
Up Filer $149
This geodesic-shaped habitat is made of superior grade durable recycled cardboard and features two points of entry/egress as well as an interior scratch deck for clawing and nesting. It's generously proportioned, easy to assemble, and stackable with integrated tab connections. Mostly though, I just like the product photo of the cat on top of the stack. It may even warrant a caption contest...
Jane Foster may live in the UK, but she knows a thing or two about Scandinavian design. She has an amazing collection of original art work on her etsy shop, as well as some delightful dolls and textiles that she makes with vintage fabrics. I've even made a mental bookmark to check out her Christmas stockings after Thanksgiving. They are pretty amazing.
Lots more photos after the jump, or head straight to her Etsy shop, or website http://www.janefoster.co.uk/
Ben Kafton is a local artist that I have been following for some time. I first saw his work at Craft Lake City last year and I really love his architectural style. He sent me a photo this week of some of his recent work, as well as a link to his Etsy shop where he has some prints for sale. More after the jump.
I don't have an iPhone, I have a hot pink Motorola Razr from about 123508973 years ago. (Photographic evidence found here.) But, gosh darnit, if I did you can bet your grandma's homemade jam that I would spring for one of these sculptural cases from Poketo. I mean, how could I not? They are awesomeness in silicone.

Nordic Art House is an online art gallery that exclusively sells art prints and photographs from Swedish artists. I'm particularly smitten by their collection of limited edition Giclée prints that they have available. Pricing seems very reasonable starting as low as $74. As an added bonus, Nordic Art House was kind enough to extend a 30% VIP discount for all Grassrootsmodern readers until the end of the month. Just put in the code GRM30 at checkout.
