Pretty Pegs

pretty pegsOn my way to Palm Springs last week I stayed in LA for one night in a AirBnB apartment.  It was tastefully decorated, bright and cheery. Looking around though, it was obvious that there was a lot of Ikea furniture in there. A lot.  Not that I'm anti Ikea. God knows I've bought my fair share over the years. But what does one do if they are on an Ikea budget but are looking to express their individuality. Pretty Pegs is a Swedish company that makes different styles of legs so you can swap out your Ikea ones.

Anyone try these?

Have any other good sources for furniture legs for DIY projects?

O'verlays :: Danika & Cheryle

OverlaysO'verlays are sort of like decals for your furniture, except that they're paintable and slightly 3-dimensional (they're about 1/8" thick).  Created by friends Cheryle Rhuda and Danika Herrick, they're designed to fit a variety of popular IKEA systems, but would be a great way of sprucing up other furniture - or even mirrors and windows!  My favorite is the "danika" pattern, a fretwork of broken geometric shapes.  Check 'em all out here and let us know what you think!

NEW Eames Chairs

In case you missed the announcement, or discounted it as April Fools' Day fodder like I originally did, Herman Miller has released five new colors and two new bases for the Eames Molded Plastic Chairs series. The new colors are aqua sky, java, wafer, greystone, and sparrow and they join existing colors black, red, white, light blue, and lime green. Two bases, the stacking/ganging base and the 4-legged base, will join the existing wire base, rocker base and the recently reintroduced dowel leg base.

These new colors/styles are already available online and it looks like the prices are all pretty universal, regardless of which retailer you go through. Though, YLiving is offering free shipping. Take note that there is an 8 week lead time no matter who you purchase the new chairs through. Looks like we'll have to wait a couple months to get our greasy little fingers on one of these after all!

$349 sofa

Someone over at Livemodern asked about an affodable modern sofa, and this one from Scandinavian Designs came up. I thought it was such a good deal that I would at least mention it to everyone. Its called the Kiel Futon, and it is adjustable to three different positions (see pics). Available in grey microfiber with aluminum legs (as shown), or camel microfiber with black legs. Not a bad look for the price, I just wonder if it is durable? Anyone have any feedback?

***UPDATE***
